Abstract
The purpose of this article is to review the pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D), current treatments, and discuss the mechanism of action and effects of sodium-glucose linked transporters 1 and 2. An examination of the risks and benefits using emerging data will be covered with a focus on treating diabetes mellitus and reducing cardiovascular and renal risk factors.
