Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this article is to review best practices for physician assistant (PA) program design and curricula development in a post COVID environment.
Methods: A PubMed literature search was conducted with the following search terms: medical learners and COVID-19, medical program design and COVID-19, physician assistant program design. Fifty-five articles were selected and narrowed to thirty-six based on relevancy.
Results: The adaptations made to PA curricula during COVID-19 are pivotal to new and emerging formats for future PA program design and delivery.
Conclusion:
The PA profession is uniquely poised to transform its educational design with hybrid-based program delivery. Formats that promote competency and outcome-based assessment, provide education pathways to bolster academic and clinical expertise, and that utilize state of the art technology platforms are key.
