Abstract
Interacting with the health care system is difficult for many within the transgender and gender diverse (TGD) community. Fostering a welcoming, affirming, and inclusive environment is within the realm of all medical professionals. The first steps in this process can be achieved through cross-cultural education. Guides on the actual practice of gender affirming and inclusive health care are available from national and worldwide organizations but are not readily accessible within medical journals for the busy practitioner. This article will explain TGD-specific terminology, concepts, practice recommendations, unique health challenges, and statistics for the practicing clinician seeking to better serve this diverse community.
