Abstract
Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is the most common metabolic disorder experienced during pregnancy. Poor glycemic control can lead to serious health risks for the birthing person, the developing fetus, and the infant. This article reviews the treatment for GDM with metformin, examines the benefits, and risks, and compares it to the current standard treatment with insulin.
