Abstract
The purpose of this article is to explore the extra-articular manifestations (EAMs) of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). While RA is most commonly characterized by synovial inflammation, the pathogenesis of the disease can lead to significant organ involvement. Genetic predisposition and environmental triggers may accelerate the formation of RA and its manifestations. This review provides a comprehensive analysis of EAMs by synthesizing current evidence regarding the pathogenesis and features of extra-articular involvement. The exploration begins with an overview of the pathophysiology of the disease before transitioning into each major manifestation. EAMs usually occur with advanced seropositive RA, but this may not always be the case. EAMs may commence before, during, or after the onset of joint symptoms, making diagnosis difficult. Understanding and early recognition of the potential manifestations of RA is crucial, as they can profoundly impact patient morbidity and mortality. This article discusses the most common and concerning phenomenon associated with RA.
