Abstract
ABSTRACT
The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the importance of physical activity, such as dancing, to improve the quality of life among older adults. A comprehensive search of articles was conducted in PubMed, and six journals were identified to support our purpose. There is considerable evidence that dance provides a versatile approach to fighting the emotional, cognitive, and physical challenges of aging, thereby promoting overall well-being. This paper focuses on the importance of physical activity, such as dancing, which shows evidence of improving the quality of life in an aging population. Since the elderly patients will continue having physical activity by dancing, it will eventually increase their chance of staying healthier without getting frequent health issues that occur with a sedentary lifestyle. It will also make them more joyful, less stressed and depressed, leading to a smaller number of hospital admissions. Although further research is needed to verify which different levels of dance, such as type, volume, and intensity, improve cognition, physical and mental functional independence, and social interaction, leading to significant health benefits. Moreover, dance is a low-cost and accessible form of physical activity that can motivate healthcare professionals to implement future community-based programs that support active aging.
