Abstract
ABSTRACT
The safety and efficacy of thrombopoietin receptor agonist romiplostim as treatment for thrombocytopenia after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) and to enhance platelet recovery in patients undergoing umbilical cord blood transplantation (UCBT) were reviewed. The findings suggest that romiplostim is effective and well-tolerated, and it also enhances platelet recovery in UCBT patients. This review can help clinicians better understand the benefits of romiplostim and how to use it appropriately and promptly to improve the care of allo-HSCT patients with delayed platelet recovery or secondary failure of platelet recovery (SFPR) and to help UCBT patients achieve platelet recovery more quickly.
