Abstract
ABSTRACT
This review aims to evaluate the benefits and effectiveness of utilizing yoga as a therapeutic modality to manage osteoarthritis by decreasing pain and improving function. A literature search was conducted utilizing PubMed, Ovid, and Google Scholar to elicit the most applicable articles that assessed the effectiveness of yoga. The comparative analysis of yoga versus other forms of aerobic activity indicates that yoga yields greater benefits for reducing pain and improving functional outcomes. Significant variability between studies was identified, which could be attributed to a lack of a standardized yoga protocol. Standardization among researchers is recommended for further research to increase reproducibility and clinical applicability. This review highlights the usefulness of utilizing yoga as an adjunctive management option for patients with osteoarthritis; the current evidence regards it as a safe, low-impact, and effective therapy.
