Abstract
This literature review evaluates the effectiveness and safety profile of single-dose corticosteroid therapy as adjunctive treatment for acute pharyngitis in patients aged 12 to 65 years. A systematic literature review was conducted using the PubMed database, focusing on studies examining corticosteroid use in patients diagnosed with acute pharyngitis of bacterial or viral etiology. The reviewed studies demonstrate that single-dose corticosteroid therapy provides significant clinical benefits, including improved pain relief and reduced symptom duration in patients with bacterial and viral pharyngitis. No significant adverse effects were reported across the included studies. Single-dose corticosteroid therapy is an effective and safe adjunctive treatment for acute pharyngitis. This treatment approach may serve as a valuable clinical tool for improving patient outcomes while potentially reducing inappropriate antibiotic prescribing and enhancing patient satisfaction. These findings support integration into evidence-based treatment guidelines for acute pharyngitis management.
