Abstract
The purpose of this review is to highlight a growing concern in the medical field known as provider turnover and to understand the contributions experienced daily by both established and new graduate providers. It also encompasses those working in various healthcare entities, especially those in Federally Qualified Health Centers or rural clinics.
A detailed study was conducted using electronic databases, identifying studies and articles that highlighted contributing factors to provider turnover and ways in which those contributing factors affect overall patient care. The findings suggest that provider turnover is more likely to happen when providers experience work-life imbalance, challenges with upper management, and the absence of a collaborative work environment. Conducting further research can provide knowledge about how to improve those contributing factors, as well as enhancing the variability in methodology, identify new ways to decrease turnover, and enhance patient care. This review emphasizes the need to further investigate provider turnover, the contributing factors, and ensure that satisfactory patient care interactions are maintained in Federally Qualified Health Centers and rural clinics.
