Abstract

Dominion Energy is a company that has many goals and aspirations. For example, they are committed to delivering clean, reliable, and affordable energy, protecting and conserving the environment, serving not only their customers but also their communities, empowering their workforce, and creating shareholder value. All of these things make Dominion Energy a wonderful company and I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to work in their Forestry Department as an intern for two consecutive summers. While working as a forester I got to meet with customers to talk about their concerns with tree growth near power lines, and work with contract tree crews to have tree growth removed from primary electric lines to keep the “right of way” clear and accessible so that safe and reliable electric power can reach homes and communities. It was fun and informative to work with forestry coordinators and contract crews during storms to remove trees from lines to restore power. During my second internship, I was able to work with the environmental regulators to perform crew observations to ensure safe and proper use of equipment while working on assigned tree projects and storm work. While the crews were working on these jobs I also had the opportunity to make sure all environmental regulations and permit requirements were meant.
