Abstract
Le Voyage dans la lune is a very important film. It was essentially, years before it was even a remote possibility, a prediction of the modern space program. It has set the groundwork for almost every space based science fiction film that has followed it in the last hundred years. Its features many of the staples present in modern space flicks. This film begins with an inspired intellectual with a far fetched plan for space travel, which is met with opposition, similar to modern films with those who oppose the progress of man. It has many situations and points of plot that will be repeated throughout the history of space movies. Events occur like aliens'' threats, getting stranded on a foreign plant, and having the space ship leave you behind. Le Voyage dans la lune was unquestionably the inspiration for an entire genre of movies.
