Abstract
I am currently an intern at the Water Treatment Plant in Altavista, Virginia. My position is a Water Treatment Plant Operator Trainee, and as such there are many skills that I am learning. Some of the techniques are taking samples of water from sediment basins and two local springs, performing routine tests of the turbidity, chlorine content, alkalinity, and hardness, along with maintaining records and files with close supervision of a higher level water plant operator. I hope to continue my experiential education at the water treatment plant by perfecting my skills in water testing and water quality and learning the EPA guidelines for those tests. I highly recommend the Altavista Water Treatment Plant as an internship site for future University of Lynchburg students with an interest in water quality or anyone with a desire to learn more about how we turn river water into drinking water.
