Abstract

It is no secret that college students do not receive a full night of sleep. College students also experience stress throughout their college career. A study conducted at the University of Lynchburg in order to research the relationship between the amount of sleep received, anxiety, and depression. The primary goal of this study is to see if there is a relationship between the amount of sleep, anxiety and depression for college students. The independent variable is the amount of sleep and the dependent variables are anxiety and depression. A sample size of 71 college students (47 female participants and 24 male participants) were recruited by email. Participants are asked to take the Zung Self Rating Anxiety Scale, Beck’s Depression Inventory, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. There was a positive correlation between poor sleep quality and anxiety and poor sleep quality and depression.
