Abstract
College Lake’s landscape is soon to be changed into an outdoor classroom and case study of what can be done in future communities facing environmental challenges. One of the goals of this on-going project is to incorporate the ideas of local schools as to how this space would be best utilized, such as whether this utilization for the school system would be educational as well as recreational. Another goal is to bring them into the conversation of how this space may look in order to allow for more unity amongst the City of Lynchburg. The schools to be incorporated will be various elementary, middle, and high schools of Lynchburg City Schools. To reach out to these schools, I will identify some of the key representatives of the City school system. The goal of this is to establish a relationship with them or with the appropriate person. Ultimately, the opinion of each school’s needs will be heard and a relationship will be established. Additionally, I will be doing research into how environmental education can be incorporated into a world of standardized testing.
