Internship with Agilent Technologies

LaDell Bush

Abstract

My Internship started during winter break in NC at research park in Raleigh. I have experienced a plethora of opportunities to use my Biology degree. From data analysis to research and development, gas chromatography (GC) and liquid chromatography (LC) instruments. Working at a Life Sciences company allows for the use of many aspects of biology. During my time working at Agilent I was able to work in the field servicing and conducting analysis on biological instruments. While servicing different products I would have to use my lab skills that I learned in biology to run blanks and solutions, as well as fix any broken parts. This would help see if the machine is working properly. When I'm not working in the field I receive data from GC and LC instruments and interpret the data by looking at retention rates, spectrum peaks, etc. As well as applying certain parameters in the settings when certain products don't mix well or if the peaks or irregular. I do this by using Agilent’s MAssHunter program as well as their protein sample bench, isotype distribution and many other software. Due to a lot of schools, hospitals, labs, etc. using Agilent products this internship gave me experience with many of their instruments.
