Abstract
My thesis will explore the world of corrupt business by examining the lack of controls in corporate accounting. This allows companies to “misstate” their balance sheet. I will show how and why companies can misstate their financial statements and explain the ways in how to detect it. The goal of this study is to show common investors that the validity and honesty of the companies they invest in should not be taken lightly. Investors need to be more informed and prepared when investing.
I will focus on how fraud is committed by using SEC statements and opinions then assess whether there needs to be more government rules and regulations or if there are issues with the means to detect fraud. There will be a section dedicated to what cau ses fraud to be committed. I will additionally focus on the aftermath of what fraud does to the investors and community around the company caught committing fraud.
This paper is designed to increase investor awareness and aid in decision making of potenti warning signs of a company. al
