Abstract

The current study aims to find the relationship between psychopathic traits, types of love, and attachment styles in romantic relationships. It is hypothesized that those with high psychopathic traits will have less passion and intimacy in their relationships while also showing insecure attachment traits. It has also been hypothesized that those who score high in passion and intimacy will be high in secure attachment. For this study, a total of 38 college students answered questions about psychopathic traits, types of love in romantic relationships, and adult attachment styles. There were no correlations between psychopathic traits and types of love or attachment but having a secure attachment style was associated with more passion and intimacy in a relationship. Although psychopathic traits do not seem to be associated with characteristics of love and attachment in adult romantic relationships, attachment style does seem to be important to the amount of intimacy and passion in a relationship.

Keywords: psychopathic traits, attachment, love, theory of love, psychopathic relationships, adult attachment.
