Abstract

There is little evidence in Division 3 athletics as it relates to swimming. There are also no studies on the differences between swimming groups (sprinters and distance swimmers). These specific groups are very different in how they train for their specific events. So, we expect to see a difference between them whether in swim times differences or body composition measurements. The goal of this study is to map out a competitive Division 3 swimming season as it relates body composition measurements to the athletes' performance. From comparing body composition measurement (total muscle %, and body fat%) to the differences in swimming times we expect to see correlation. The athletes were measured through the 19-week season five separate times, measuring height, waist: hip ratio, and BIA data. As body muscle% goes up and body fat% goes down we expect to see a significant drop in the athletes' swim performance times.
