Abstract

In Fall 2022, the University of Lynchburg theatre department put on the production of Clue. Based off of the 1985 movie which was itself based off of the beloved board game, Clue is a comedic murder mystery play which includes a lot of campy aspects with fun odes to the source material. I was the props artisan for this production. A props artisan is a person who is in charge of devising, constructing, and acquiring props that match the needs and design for the production. For me, this included finding, ordering, modifying, or creating over 30 individual props that would be handled by the actors every night. In my paper, I will go through the full process of producing the props for Clue, as well as my insights into what went well and what I would change for next time. I will go into detail about my methodology about processes of making certain props including using silicon, resin work, and painting.
