Abstract
Clinical Scenario: Weight bias is a negative connotation towards weight that people feel. This can affect the way that humans interact with one another. With this thought, weight bias is a concept seen throughout the healthcare systems by different providers. This weight bias may be implicit or explicit, nonetheless, it may affect how healthcare professionals provide patient care in a negative way.
Clinical Question: Do healthcare providers’ weight bias affect patient care?
Summary of Key Findings:Through a review of literature the results yielded 3 studies that discussed weight bias within the healthcare profession that affected patient care. Results indicated that patients felt as though there were negative attitudes and care due to their weight.
Clinical Bottom Line: There is moderate evidence to support the claim that healthcare workers that have a bias about weight affects the care they provide to their patients.
Strength of Recommendation: Grade B evidence exists to indicate that weight bias does affect a healthcare worker’s patient care.
