Abstract

Bonner Leader Program Legacy Project Abstract

Princess Salifou

I’ve had the opportunity to serve in the Lynchburg community at Brook Hill Farm under the Bonner Leader Program at the University of Lynchburg. Brook Hill Farm is non-profit horse rescue and therapeutic riding organization that exists to provide rehabilitation focused services, a safe haven for unwanted horses, and offers a therapeutic riding program for personal growth and academic education for the community, helping both horses and people. Working with horses and the individuals who benefit from therapeutic riding and interaction with horses has shifted my perspective on the endless possibilities of what therapeutic exercises can be. Brook Hill Farm’s mission is to rehabilitate, retire, offer adoption and therapeutic riding. Data is important to the organization's functionality and sponsor resources. To integrate the career path I want to achieve in analytics, my project will involve creating a data system that is informative and sustainable. The majority of the documents the organization uses are physical copies and digital copies can be beneficial. A system where information about the individual horses can be accessed by the staff of Brook Hill Farm. The purpose is to help distribute information, secure services, and build a reliable network. Taking the physical copies and sorting them into different sections with either horses on the property, not on the property or has passed. The system is designed to be organized and programmed to be easy to use and distribute.
