Abstract
Kurt Vonnegut was an American writer who lived from 1922 to 2007. An individualistic man, Vonnegut never allowed his own literary style to be suppressed or changed by anyone. Vonnegut in his meta-fictitious magnum opus Slaughterhouse Five subverts most grammatical norms via his unique style on every single level of stylistic cognition. Vonnegut stylistically writes in very short and simple sentences as a way of showing the paradoxically straight forwardness of Billy Pilgrims’ life as he becomes unstuck in time. Adjective use is very sparse and mostly comes into the consciousness of the reader for its snarky and humorous effect when used. From the simple word to the language itself, Vonnegut goes above and beyond to his readers to demonstrate that his work follows no prescriptive rules.
