Abstract
This poster will describe my experience serving as the Campus Sustainability Intern for spring 2019 under the supervision of Dr. Henry-Stone on promoting sustainability at the University of Lynchburg. During the fall 2018 semester I served as the recycling intern and learned about campus sustainability initiatives and how to effectively outreach to students. This semester one main project has been RecycleMania, a nationwide contest between colleges and universities to weigh in our recycling and see how we compare. The goal of participating in RecycleMania is to make students more aware and proactive with campus sustainability. Another initiative includes getting new bins in Hobbs-Sigler Hall, as a pilot project in order to get uniform bins throughout campus and give students and staff an obvious choice between waste and recycling all in one bin. Promoting interactive RecycleMania events, the new bins, and social media outreach are key factors in increasing the average we recycle on campus, which was down 20% from last year.
