Abstract
We are not talking about suicide as we should be, and this needs to change. Suicide. The third-leading cause of death for young people ages 15 to 24. About 20 percent of all teens experience depression before they reach adulthood. Every 100 minutes a teen takes their own life. We are surrounded by suicidal people, but we are not taught how to interact with them. The average person simply ignores the signs or is not aware of the signs of impending suicide. We need to do something about this before these numbers increase. Today I will talk about the problems associated with inappropriate responses to suicidal individuals, I will offer a solution for this problem, I will articulate the benefits of my solution and I will offer action steps that everyone in this room can utilize. My goal is to persuade all of you to engage in these action steps in order to prevent suicide.
