Abstract

In recent years, the popularity of the true crime genre has skyrocketed. While many individuals enjoy the stories that come from true crime media (podcasts, YouTube videos, documentaries), very few stop to think about the effects it has on the victims. In order to gauge the public’s opinion on the effects of true crime media on surviving victims and their families, this project uses an anonymous survey to collect opinions from individuals about if they believe that true crime media is harmful or helpful for victims and their families. The survey will allow for new data to be collected and compared within itself and to existing articles about high-profile cases that have been big in the media.
