Abstract
Mastering reading comprehension is a complex process that requires students to successfully access and integrate a range of foundational and advanced literacy skills. Likewise, effective instruction in reading comprehension demands knowledge and support of the cognitive, linguistic, and metacognitive skills that enable students to construct meaning from a text. This presentation explores evidence-based strategies based on current research, literacy theories, and classroom examples to strengthen professional understanding and effective implementation of reading comprehension instruction. Participants will engage in guided application to transfer theory to effective classroom practices.
